Open Your Garage Door to Fame & Fortune with the Genie® “Open Sesame” Video Contest

Consumers Encouraged to Showcase Creative and Safe Uses for a Garage Door Opener for a Chance to Win $5,000

Mt. Hope, Ohio (May 3, 2012) – Genie is granting you three wishes for a powerful, quiet and fast garage door opener with the chance to win it’s “Open Sesame” Facebook Video Contest. The Genie Company, one of the most recognized brands in garage door openers, is encouraging consumers to submit creative videos for a chance to win $5,000. The Ohio-based company would like entrants to showcase ways for a Genie garage door opener to come through as the “hero” of any garage with its advanced design and features. In order to be considered for the $5,000 grand prize, entrants must show the garage door opener being used properly and safely.

In addition to the grand prize winner, four finalists will win $1,000. More than $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded throughout the campaign. All five finalists will receive professionally installed Genie garage door openers. The contest will be held online at Facebook.com/GenieCompany from now – June 15, 2012.

Genie brand garage door openers, like the new TriloG™ 1500 and 1200, direct drive screw openers or IntelliG® 1200 and 1000 belt or chain openers, feature powerful and fast performance, safety and convenience and surprisingly quiet operation. Contestants who submit a video highlighting features such as these could win one of the five cash prizes.

“We’re looking for consumer videos showcasing the most creative and proper use of a garage door opener in a fun or informative way,” said David Osso, Genie Brand Manager. “The Genie ‘Open Sesame’ Video Contest is a great way for us to hear from consumers. We can’t wait to have them show us how they think a Genie garage door opener can ‘save the day’ for a garage where the current opener is broken, noisy, doesn’t work well, or doesn’t even exist. We’ll be announcing our top five finalists in June and sharing the video submissions so everyone can join the fun.”

The Genie “Open Sesame” Video Contest is open to all eligible U.S. consumers. Entrants must become a fan of the Genie Company on Facebook.com/GenieCompany and submit up to a 90 second video showcasing the use of a garage door opener in the most creative way possible, either as a replacement of an old opener, or to fill the void where no opener exists. Consumers do not need to own a Genie garage door opener to enter.

Those interested in entering a video can find inspiration by watching the clip, Too much to remember? Closed Confirm™ to the Rescue! The short video highlights Genie’s newest feature, the Closed Confirm remote, which sends a flashing light and audio signal when the garage door shuts properly. If the door instead reverses open, a warning tone sounds and a red light flashes, giving homeowners the opportunity to investigate the reversal.

Five finalists will be chosen by Genie officials to have Genie garage door openers installed. Openers can be provided to those who would like to do a self-install. Once installation is complete, finalists will record and submit the final cut of their videos using the new Genie garage door opener for the chance to win the grand prize.
