Celebrate What America Watched and Loved in 2012, Announce #1 Movie Fan Photo Contest

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. (January 31, 2013) – With movie-awards season in full swing, Redbox announced its second-annual Redbox Movie Awards. For the second straight year, Redbox customers – rather than film critics – decided what movies and actors will win the coveted “Ruby” statuette, based both on their rentals and responses to a Redbox Movie Awards poll.

Redbox is premiering three animated videos to announce the 2012 Redbox Movie Awards winners, based on 2012 rentals and more than 30,000 survey responses. The first video is streaming now at redbox.com/MovieAwards and features the category winners for the most-rented comedy, action, drama, horror and family movies. A second video, debuting on February 4, will announce winners in categories like favorite hero, villain, animated character and dance scene, as voted by Redbox fans.

Redbox will unveil a third and final video on February 8, revealing the most-rented actor and actress and officially announcing America’s most-rented Redbox movie of 2012.

For the first time, Redbox is giving movie lovers a chance to be a part of the event, with the launch of its #1 Movie Fan photo contest at redbox.com/MovieAwards. The contest encourages entrants to submit photos showing how they love movies more than anyone else – in whatever creative ways they want to do it. Redbox will accept entries now through February 9, 2013. One lucky winner will get a Sony home theater system, a Ruby statuette and more. The grand prize is valued at $5,000.
